Erik Angelini’s journey through art, music, and creativity began in childhood and has led to diverse accomplishments. In 1985, he won first place in a Kentucky statewide art contest while attending Shacklette Elementary School. His passion for crafting monsters and horror props was sparked in 2000 through a collaboration with his grandmother on a life-size sculpture of Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s monster.
Erik became deeply involved in the haunted house industry in New Albany, IN, where he redesigned the Culbertson Mansion haunted house, turning it into a local sensation. His fascination with Waverly Hills Sanatorium led to the creation of the “Beyond the Darkness” haunted attraction in 2004, further cementing his reputation for creating immersive, terrifying experiences.
In 2011, Erik and his brother Nick expanded Cryptic Ink Tattoo Studio, where Erik’s talents continued to flourish. Beyond tattooing, he has crafted haunted attraction props and is currently developing “The Grave Escape,” an escape room experience under the Cryptic Ink brand.
A true polymath, Erik is also a musician and classic car enthusiast, having built replicas of iconic movie cars. He has tattooed notable personalities, including UK basketball player Derek Anderson and Jeffrey Nothing from the heavy metal band Mushroomhead. At Cryptic Ink Tattoo Studio, Erik continues to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation.
